With the Michelin Defender LTX, you can practically drive anywhere you want.

Compared to the Michelin Premier, the Defender LTX has a much stronger and thicker tread compound, making the tire much stronger.

It also helps the tire prevent any punctures from happening, so if you’re driving on a rocky or dry surface, you can be sure that the tire will not deflate.

The tires also have 3-D sipes that help them hold a grip on slippery surfaces.

With this feature, it becomes super easy for the driver of the vehicle to control breaks and other stabilizing functions of the vehicle.

The Defender LTX has four circumferential grooves on the frontal layer of its body, making handling the car on wet surfaces super easy.

So, even if you’re driving on a slippery road on a rainy day or if you’re driving on icy surfaces, these grooves will make sure that the car doesn’t get out of control.

The 3-D sipes help it hold ground by digging into the surface and causing friction to work on the road.

This makes for a very comfortable and harmless drive on such risky surfaces. In addition to this, the Defender LTX is also a rather noiseless tire.

So, you can be sure not to disturb your neighbors when you pull out of your garage.

Almost everyone who has bought the tire has said that the Defender LTX is an incredibly smooth-running tire.

It has helped a great many people take control of their car on slippery roads.

The wet traction on this tire is really the selling point for this product.

Pros
  • Incredible wet traction
  • Four circumferential grooves for increase grip intensity
  • 3-D sipes help it dig into smoother surfaces
  • 70,000 miles warranty
Cons
  • Vehicle specific tires; can only fit on SUVs, lighter trucks, and crossover vehicles
  • On the higher end of the price spectrum, but worth it

Key Feature Comparison

The main feature of the Michelin Premier LTX is its build. It is made up of silica and sunflower oil tread compounds.

The Michelin Defender LTX (Full Review Here) is made up of double-layered rubber compounds.

Also, both the Defender and the Premier LTX tires have symmetric patterns.

The Defender comes with built-in 3-D sipes.

The Premier has a continuous center rib that keeps its centrifugal force intact, which balances the vehicles very well.

Both the tires are all-weather and all-terrain compatible, and they can both drive very well on plain old roads.

While the grooves on the Defender have slight slits on their sides for more grip, the Premier has rather streamlined grooves encircling the entire tire.

Performance Comparison

While both the tires perform incredibly well, there is some slight variation in terms of which lasts longer and performs better.

Given that the Michelin Defender LTX has a warranty of longer duration than the Premier, the Premier is also a lot more noise-free to drive around with.

So, the Defender arguably does last longer because of its ability to hold grips and create grooves.

However, the Michelin Premier LTX also lasts very long, just a little less long than the Defender.

With that said, the tire that performs well overall will also have to be the Michelin Defender LTX because it can operate through various kinds of surfaces.

Now, this is not to say that the Premier cannot.

It is just that the Defender can work slightly better than the Premier because of the way it is built.

One can say that the Defender is the stronger, rougher brother of the two that can take some hardcore wear and tear.

Price Comparison

The Michelin Premier will start costing you around $136 and upwards, making it a very budget-friendly tire for such high quality.

You can also get rebates, discounts, and lower prices if you get a slightly used tire or if you buy the tire from different websites.

Similarly, the Micheline Defender LTX can start costing you at $125, which is almost as much as the Premier.

This is also a very budget-friendly price range and is considered very inexpensive when it comes to high quality, all-weather tires.
